Amy-Jane Marsden Delivers Keynote at EV Summit 2025

Amy-Jane Marsden, Managing Director of Pro-Tech MOT & Automotive Academy, delivered an afternoon keynote at EV Summit 2025, held at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford.

The keynote, “TechSafe by Design: Meeting 2030 Goals with Skills, Certification and Consumer Trust,” explored the critical role that automotive skills, training and professional certification will play as the UK continues its transition to electric vehicles.

EV Summit 2025 | 18 September 2025

TechSafe by Design

Amy-Jane’s keynote focused on one of the less visible challenges facing the transition to electric vehicles: ensuring the automotive workforce has the skills and confidence needed to safely support the growing number of EVs on UK roads.

While much of the conversation surrounding EV adoption focuses on vehicle technology and charging infrastructure, the technicians responsible for maintaining, repairing and testing those vehicles are an equally important part of the transition.

The session highlighted the role of IMI TechSafe in providing consumers with confidence that technicians working on electric vehicles have the appropriate skills, knowledge and safety competence.

Preparing the Automotive Workforce for the EV Transition

During the keynote, Amy-Jane discussed the skills challenges facing the automotive sector as vehicle technology continues to evolve.

EV Summit’s post-event coverage highlighted concerns raised during the session around the future availability of suitably qualified EV technicians, workshops already turning away electric vehicle work because they lack the necessary expertise, and the continuing pressures on the MOT workforce.

For Pro-Tech, ensuring technicians have access to high-quality EV training is not simply about gaining another qualification. It is about giving automotive professionals the competence and confidence to work safely while helping businesses prepare for the changing vehicle parc.

Building Consumer Trust Through Skills

Consumer confidence will also play an important role in the transition to electric vehicles.

As EV ownership increases, motorists need confidence that the people maintaining and repairing their vehicles are appropriately trained to work with high-voltage systems and increasingly advanced vehicle technology.

Professional recognition such as IMI TechSafe provides a way for technicians to demonstrate those competencies and helps consumers identify individuals with the appropriate skills to work safely on electric and hybrid vehicles.

Bringing Automotive Training into the EV Conversation

Speaking at EV Summit provided an opportunity for Pro-Tech to bring the perspective of automotive technicians, MOT professionals and training providers into a wider discussion about the UK’s transition to electric vehicles.

The two-day event brought together organisations and leaders from across the EV ecosystem to discuss the barriers and opportunities surrounding greater electric vehicle adoption, with the 2025 programme centred around “Connecting Customers: Driving Sales Engagement.”

For Pro-Tech, the message is clear: the EV transition doesn’t only depend on vehicles and infrastructure. It also depends on having a skilled automotive workforce capable of safely supporting those vehicles throughout their working lives.
