ELECTRIC / HYBRID

Level 2 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Hazard Management

for Emergency & Recovery Personnel

About Our Electric Vehicle Emergency Services Training

Our Electric Vehicle Emergency Services Training is designed for emergency service personnel, investigators and recovery professionals who may encounter damaged electric and hybrid vehicles while responding to incidents.

The IMI Level 2 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Hazard Management for Emergency & Recovery Personnel provides the knowledge and practical skills required to recognise and manage the additional hazards associated with electric and hybrid vehicles following a collision, fire or other incident.

Delivered in collaboration with FireWiseUK Learning Academy, the course combines electric and hybrid vehicle knowledge with specialist responder safety training. Candidates develop their understanding of high-voltage vehicle systems alongside the practical considerations involved in safely responding to incidents involving damaged electric and hybrid vehicles.

Unlike a purely classroom-based approach, the course includes hands-on practical training and realistic scenarios, helping responders understand not only why particular precautions are necessary, but how to apply them in real-world situations.

Who is this for?

This course is ideal for:

Practical Training for Emergency Responders

This course goes beyond classroom-based EV awareness. Candidates take part in practical training using a range of electric and hybrid vehicles, including accident-damaged vehicles, to explore the hazards and challenges responders may encounter at real incidents.

Training covers practical responder considerations including PPE and RPE, extrication and trauma care, thermal events, containment and suppression, and the recovery, transport and storage of damaged electric and hybrid vehicles and components.

For Fire & Rescue personnel, the course is also mapped against the NFCC and UKRO Extrication Competency Framework, helping relate the training directly to the operational environment in which responders work.

Eligibility Requirements

There are no formal qualification requirements for our Electric Vehicle Emergency Services Training course.

The course is designed for personnel who may encounter electric and hybrid vehicles as part of their role, particularly where vehicles may have been involved in a collision, fire, breakdown or other incident.

Candidates may include those working within Fire & Rescue, Police, Ambulance, highways, vehicle recovery, accident investigation, salvage and insurance-related roles.

As a training instructor in the Fire and Rescue Service, I identified that we needed to get ahead of the curve with knowledge and understanding of alternatively fuelled vehicles. This course has provided us with extremely useful knowledge and practical considerations in order to take back and update our Service on best practice and procedures to apply when attending incidents involving these vehicles. The instructors had extensive knowledge and the collaboration is a perfect way to impart that knowledge jointly.
