The MOT Class 5 Training and Assessment course is designed for qualified Class 4 MOT Testers who wish to expand their authorisation to include Class 5 vehicles—primarily larger passenger-carrying vehicles such as minibuses, ambulances, and community transport vehicles with 13–16 passenger seats.

This course ensures you are equipped with the specific knowledge and understanding required to safely inspect and test larger vehicle types, in line with DVSA regulations.

Class 5 Vehicle Familiarisation

  • Differences between Class 4 and Class 5 vehicles
  • Common configurations, safety features, and inspection challenges
  • Accessibility considerations and weight/load compliance

DVSA MOT Testing Requirements for Class 5.

  • Testing procedures and pass/fail criteria specific to Class
  • Understanding and applying DVSA inspection manuals correctly
  • Use of the MOT Testing Service (MTS) for Class 5 entries
  • Safety Protocols & Inspection Techniques
  • Checking structural integrity, seating, and emergency exits
  • Brake testing and load simulation requirements

Test Log & Record-Keeping

  • Correct completion of test logs, refusal notices, and pass certificates
  • Evidence management and audit preparation

Conducting a full Class 5 MOT under observation
