IRTEC Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) Inspection Technician Accreditation
The IRTEC Light Commercial Vehicle Inspection Technician Accreditation is a nationally recognised qualification that certifies the skills of technicians who inspect and assess the roadworthiness of light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes. This includes panel vans, pickups, and small fleet vehicles commonly used in logistics, utilities, and service industries.
Successful candidates are awarded an IRTEC licence valid for 5 years, a certificate, and their name is added to the IRTEC Technicians Register.

Eligibility Requirements
This certification is for technicians inspecting light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, such as vans and pickups.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in inspecting or maintaining light commercial vehicles, or
- or
- A Level 3 S/NVQ or equivalent with at least 1 year’s relevant hands-on experience
Pro-Tech offers three tailored routes to achieve IRTEC accreditation:
Option 1: Accreditation Only (½-Day Assessment)
Designed for confident technicians requiring no additional training.
Includes both the online knowledge test and practical assessment conducted on-site.
Option 2: Accreditation with Classroom Training (1-Day Training + ½-Day Assessment)
Combines theoretical instruction with assessments.
Provides one day of classroom training, followed by the online test and practical assessment on-site.
Option 3: Accreditation with Classroom and Practical Training (2 Days Training + ½-Day Assessment)
Offers comprehensive preparation through both classroom and hands-on workshop training.
Includes one day of theoretical instruction, one day of practical training, and the subsequent assessments on-site.

IRTEC Light Commercial Vehicle Inspection Technician Accreditation
This accreditation certifies technicians to carry out inspections on light commercial vehicles (up to 3.5 tonnes), ensuring vehicles are safe, roadworthy, and compliant with DVSA standards.
What You’ll Learn:
- Inspection techniques for light commercial vehicles
