IRTEC Heavy Vehicle Trailer Inspection Technician Accreditation
The IRTEC Heavy Vehicle Trailer Inspection Technician Accreditation is a nationally recognised certification that validates the competence of technicians responsible for inspecting heavy vehicle trailers. This accreditation ensures that technicians possess the necessary skills and knowledge to perform thorough trailer inspections in line with DVSA standards.
Upon successful completion, technicians receive an IRTEC licence valid for 5 years, a certificate, and are listed on the IRTEC Technicians Register.

Eligibility Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience working on heavy trailers
- or
- A Level 3 S/NVQ or equivalent, plus 1 year of hands-on trailer maintenance experience
Pro-Tech offers three tailored routes to achieve IRTEC accreditation:
Option 1: Accreditation Only (½-Day Assessment)
Designed for confident technicians requiring no additional training.
Includes both the online knowledge test and practical assessment conducted on-site.
Option 2: Accreditation with Classroom Training (1-Day Training + ½-Day Assessment)
Combines theoretical instruction with assessments.
Provides one day of classroom training followed by the online test and practical assessment on-site.
Option 3: Accreditation with Classroom and Practical Training (2 Days Training + ½-Day Assessment)
Offers comprehensive preparation through both classroom and hands-on workshop training.
Includes one day of theoretical instruction, one day of practical training, and the subsequent assessments on-site.

This accreditation certifies technicians to carry out inspections on heavy vehicle trailers, ensuring safety and roadworthiness across transport fleets.
