What Do You Need to Get Started?
To enrol on the Level Technical Specialist in MOT Testing (Class 4 & 7) (Award), DVSA sets eligibility requirements. Typically, you’ll need:
- A Level 3 qualification in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair, or
- Recognised equivalent experience
- At least four years’ full-time experience repairing relevant vehicle classes
- A full UK driving licence
- To be of good repute, with no serious disciplinary history
If you don’t hold a Level 3 qualification, LVI (Light Vehicle Inspection) routes may still allow eligibility – something many technicians aren’t aware of.
