Eligibility Requirements
To enrol on this DVSA-approved qualification, you must meet the following criteria:

Age
You must be at least 18 years old -
Driving Licence
You must hold a full UK driving licence for the class of vehicle you intend to test (Class 4 and/or Class 7) -
Employment
You must have a minimum of 4 years’ full-time employment in servicing and repairing the relevant vehicle types
This experience must be hands-on mechanical work, not administrative or supervisory roles -
Technical Qualification
You must have one of the following:
A Level 3 qualification in Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair,
or
A valid IMI Light Vehicle Inspection Technician Accreditation (as an alternative entry route) -
Good Character
You must not have any unspent criminal convictions for offences involving:
- Dishonesty or fraud
- Serious motoring offences
- You must not be suspended or disqualified from MOT testing

Level 2 Award in MOT Testing (Classes 4 & 7)
This DVSA-approved qualification enables technicians to become authorised MOT testers for Class 4 (cars) and Class 7 (light commercial vehicles). It covers everything required to carry out safe, legal, and consistent MOT inspections.
